Leadership Network Symposium

TCSymposium2014

At the Core: Thinking and Collaborating for 30 Years 1984-2014

January 29-30, 2014

Imagine schools across the country as catalysts for deep thinking and collaborating. In 2014, we enter a wave of change based on standards that challenge students and teachers to focus deeply on thinking and collaboration. This year’s Symposium marks the 2nd year of Thinking Collaborative as well as celebrates the 30th year of Cognitive CoachingSM.  This year, we pay tribute to the developers, Art Costa and Bob Garmston.

We invite those of you who have completed the Adaptive Schools Foundation Seminars and/or at least days 1-4 of Cognitive Coaching Seminars® to join our community for two days of learning, connecting and integrating. You will have the opportunity to network with colleagues from around the world and participate in large and small group sessions designed to enhance your effectiveness in supporting thinking and collaborating in your organization.

Our journey begins Wednesday, January 29th, with keynote speakers, Bill Powell and Ochan Kusuma Powell. Bill and Ochan are the Directors of Education Across Frontiers www.educationacrossfrontiers.com (new window). With the Powells, we will interactively explore ideas about collective intelligence in schools. The Powells’ research is based on the ideas that all organizations are comprised of individual and group intelligence; schools are no exception.  Schools are places of learning and therefore should have a high organizational intelligence quotient (OIQ).  However, frequently they do not.  The Powells’ most recent book, The OIQ Factor:  How Teachers Can Raise the Organizational Intelligence of Schools, will be available for purchase at the Symposium and copies can also be ordered prior to the Symposium at www.educationacrossfrontiers.com (new window).

Following the keynote, we will continue learning with Art Costa and Bob Garmston. When asked about their body of work, they responded, “It has exceeded our wildest dreams.” With Drs. Costa and Garmston, we will explore reflections and connections from the past 30 years.

Michael Dolcemascolo and Jane Ellison, Executive Co-Directors of Thinking Collaborative, Carolee Hayes and Carolyn McKanders Directors of Thinking Collaborative will share learnings based on this work. Wednesday evening, we will celebrate this work at a dinner emphasizing the Pearls of Wisdom harvested the past 30 years.

Thursday will include small group workshops and book studies as well as opportunities to connect as a community of learners. Our day will end with the exploration of conflict as a resource through the work of Polarity Management with Carolyn McKanders. We are excited to announce that we will be offering differentiated sessions of Polarity Management.  There will be a foundation session for those who have not worked in this area or who would like a refresher.  In addition, we will offer Advanced Polarity Management for those who are interested in applying the principles and tools in expanded and creative ways to system tensions.

We look forward to you joining us on this journey. Please contact Lisa Joseph, ccclj@aol.com or 303–683–6146 with questions.

(reduced fee for TA’s who register and participate in three days of meetings and workshops)
