The Reflecting Conversation: Commit to Application

Authored By:

This week’s Sustaining the Journey continues a review of the Reflecting Conversation Map. The focus will be on the fourth region, “Commit to application.”

Summarize impressions and recall supporting information/data

Analyze causal factors

Construct new learning(s)

Commit to application

Reflect on the coaching processand explore refinements

The purpose of this region of the map is to invite transfer of new learnings into the future. Without application of insights, real learning does not occur. In the, “Construct new learning,” region the reflector labels the learning. In this region, that learning becomes concrete when applied to future experiences.

Some possible questions might be:

How do you anticipate using these insights with this group in the future?

What might be some implications for your work?

What do you want to be certain to do in the future given this experience?

How do you see yourself applying this in your future work?

As you look at the work you are doing this week, how can you assist your colleagues in transferring their learning forward?
