Ben Hicks

Ben serves as the Associate Executive Director of Training and Development for the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE), where he leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional learning opportunities that support the growth of special education leaders across the state. Ben is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), bringing a high standard of professionalism and strategic insight to his role. In addition to his work with MAASE, Ben is also an Adaptive Schools Training Associate, facilitating learning experiences that build group collaboration and leadership capacity.

Ben’s career in education began as a secondary-level special education teacher with a focus on mathematics instruction. He later transitioned into a leadership role as a special education supervisor, where he was responsible for center-based classrooms and itinerant service delivery across programs. He then served as the Director of Special Education for the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District in Charlevoix, Michigan, providing regional leadership and systems-level support to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.

Drawing on his classroom experience and extensive training in Adaptive Schools, Ben is recognized for his ability to present and facilitate with clarity and purpose. He has worked with schools and community teams to develop strategic plans, guide continuous improvement efforts, and lead meaningful data dialogue processes. Ben holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Special Education, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration, all from Saginaw Valley State University.
