Jason Weaver

Jason has been working in education since 2002. He has served the Joplin School District in Joplin, MO, as a middle school history teacher, instructional coach for technology use, middle school assistant principal, and elementary principal. Additionally, he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in instructional technology, assessment, leadership, and curriculum for both Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, MO, and Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS.

Working with teams and building capacity in teachers has been a theme of his entire career. Jason has often prepared and led professional development in the areas of assessment, technology use, and curriculum design to audiences K-12 educators. He has facilitated groups in curriculum revision, data analysis, and building improvement at both elementary and secondary levels.

A core belief for Jason is the power of understanding identity and its impact on individuals and teams to create meaningful growth for student learning. As principal, Jason led a school team to develop a clear identity for both students and staff. The impact of understanding that clear identity was to see the school go from being labeled as "in need of improvement" by the state (for performance in the lowest 5% of all elementary schools) to being recognized for the highest overall AYP in the district. Additionally, due to the significant growth, the school was recognized in an independent study by the University of St. Louis for being one of the top 20 highest growing elementary schools in the state for ELA and Math.
