Jenny Cunneen

Jenny Cunneen, proud principal of Forestdale Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia, has been an educator since 2004 and an administrator and member of the Thinking Collaborative community since 2010. In both her work as a building principal and also through her Adaptive Schools and Cognitive Coaching training, Jenny's identity is that of a coach whose goal is building capacity and efficacy in the students, adults, and families she serves each day.

Jenny started her career as an elementary school teacher leader. Prior to becoming a school-based administrator, she served as an Educational Specialist in the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Office of Professional Learning and Accountability, where she coordinated the Great Beginnings Teacher Induction Program for 2,000 new teachers each year and provided school- and central-office based professional development for the 200 schools in the county.

Jenny is an Adaptive Schools Training Associate and Cognitive Coach Agency Trainer. She has presented at numerous national conferences including the Learning Forward Conference, the New Teacher Center Symposium, and the Teaching and Learning Conference, and is a contributing author to the book Transformative Talk: Cognitive Coaches Share Their Stories

Jenny received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and her M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She lives in Alexandria with husband and two elementary school daughters. Jenny’s core values of building relationships, building capacity and efficacy in others, and fostering joy in our work lead everything she does.
