Elena Aguilar's Lightbulb Moment??

I'm not sure if you all get Aguilar's blog, but this one made me pause and turn my head sideways a little. I have one client who is reading Arise by Aguilar and another client who read The Art of Coaching. I'm wondering how you all might respond if a client brings this blog post up. I'm also wondering if it might be worth exploring the role emotion plays in Cognitive Coaching.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, letters, and ideas. I'm at my computer looking at the white ground outside, just thinking, as we are currently iced in today in NC.

One of the things Michael taught me early on as a mentor was the "both/and" way to view other coaching models. I was amazed as he took the high road when a potential client asked about Knight's model. He knew enough about Jim Knights model to talk about its strengths and how CC can support teachers along side it. Over the last few years, I have attended two of Knights sessions at Learning Forward, completed The Art of Coaching, Teams, & Equity from Aguilar. We were just curious and whats' funny, we kept coming back to the strengths of CC. I have also found that in finding connections between models, most recently with Aguilar's TC, the clients generally appreciate how deep their learning is with CC and how powerful it is. Another coaching model many schools are utilizing in NC is the Get Better Faster and it's neat to talk to them about how our most recent clients are looking to add CC to GBF. They notice the gaps and it's amazing how inspired they are to weave GBF into the support functions of CC.

I certainly want to look at the trainer handout on the different coaching models to get that back in my working memory.

I'm also thinking I would love to draft some articles to submit to key journals focusing on the strengths of CC and some of the benefits clients notice with our model. Aguilar and Knight seem to have fairly regular columns and maybe we can spark some curiosity in potential clients by offering a positive counter narrative.
